Obituary for Verona Icilda Bell-Benjamin

Piscataway, NJ - Verona Bell Benjamin was born to Joslyn Bell and Clathilda Bell-Hinds on April 14th, 1919 in Panama, Republic of Panama. She was raised on the Canal Zone and attended school there and after graduation, she attended the Santa Familia dressmaking school for three years. She then worked on the base of Fort Kobbe, PX before coming to the US in June of 1949.

Verona then worked in the garment center until her retirement in January 1989. After retirement she did dress making at home in Brooklyn, New York. She then moved to New Jersey in May 2011. She was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church and also a member of the Ladies International Union. Her hobbies were sewing, traveling and reading.

Verona is survived by her daughter Rebeca Bell-Harper, granddaughter Nancy Harper-Johnson and husband Al Johnson, great-granddaughter Cleo Harper. Josefina Munajj, Joanne Moodie, Sheila Parks and Sharon Winter her nieces. Joslyn Bell and Humberto Bell her nephews and sister Connie Morell. There are many other nieces and nephews and other loving family members Verona leaves behind.

Visitation will be held in the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Road, Piscataway, NJ 08854 on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 beginning at 3:30 pm. A funeral service celebrating Verona’s life will be held at 5:30 pm.

Prior to burial at Rosehill Cemetery on Thursday, April 5, 2018, additional visitation will be held in the funeral home from 10:30 am until 11:00 am.
