

Obituary of Daniel J. Gallagher
Daniel Gallagher, 82, passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Dan was a longtime resident of South Plainfield.
He was employed by Verizon for over 30 years, followed by the NJ Turnpike Authority in the Traffic Safety Department for several years prior to his retirement.
Dan was dedicated to his community, serving as Councilman for 7 years, and as Mayor for 16 years. He was proud to be a fire commissioner and honorary fireman of the South Plainfield
Volunteer Fire Department. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield and was a longtime member of the South Plainfield Knights of Columbus Council 6203. Dan
enjoyed volunteering many years for the Sacred Heart fair.
Outside of serving the residents of South Plainfield, Dan centered his life around his family.
He loved traveling with Marion, his beloved wife of 62 years, to various countries, always making sure to visit the casinos. He also enjoyed his vacations spent with his many dear friends. He
lovingly spoiled his grandchildren, taking them on vacations from the Jersey Shore to Disney World. He lived for them, and they will miss him dearly. He taught them the importance of
hard work, kindness, and family, and left them with so many wonderful memories to cherish. He will be deeply missed, and never forgotten.
He is predeceased by his father, Charles Gallagher, a son, Brian and is survived by his loving wife, Marion; sons, Daniel Jr. and his wife Brenda of Flemington and Michael and his wife Kim of
South Plainfield; brother Charlie and his wife Kathy of Red Hook, NY; grandchildren, Daniel III, Brian, Jake, Brad, Matt, Amanda, Bella and Gaby. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 7,
2025 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, May 8, 2025 at 10 am at Church of the Sacred Heart, South Plainfield.
Immediately following mass, Dan will be laid to rest at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Dan’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
