Obituary of Robert J Golas

Barnegat – Robert J. Golas, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 26, 2025 at Southern Ocean County Medical Center in, Manahawkin.

Born in Plainfield to the late Frank and Josephine, Bob had resided in South Plainfield for most of his life before moving to Manahawkin and then settling to Barnegat in 2012. 

Bob worked as the warehouse manager for Bristol Myers in Edison prior to retiring at age 62.  He later worked part time as a funeral assistant for the McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals in South Plainfield for several years before fully retiring. 

His love of hard work and dedication was evident as a volunteer for the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department where he served for most of his life.   He is a Life Member, as well as a member of the Exempt Fireman’s Association.   Bob also found great joy in the time he spent volunteering as a Coach in his younger years and later volunteering at Southern Ocean Medical Center. 

Predeceased by his brother Frank, Bob is survived by his loving wife Gail (Rizzo), his two children and their spouses, Trish Pizza and her husband Armand and Robert and his wife Joanne.  Also surviving are his three grandchildren whom he loved and adored, Robert and his fiancé, Parisa, Kristin and her husband Keith Dorflinger and Brian Golas. A great granddaughter is expected later this year.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, at 10 AM in the Church of the Sacred Heart, 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.

Interment will follow mass in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains, NJ

There are no public visitation hours.

The family is requesting memorial donations in his memory be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to the South Plainfield Volunteer Fire Department.
