Henry S. Zawadzki
South Plainfield - Surrounded by his family, Henry S. Zawadzki 88, entered the kingdom of God in peace on Wednesday at the Highlands in Edison.
Born and raised in the Chrome section of Carteret, Henry settled to South Plainfield with his wife in 1949.
A veteran of the US Navy, he served his country well as a Motor Machinist Mate aboard an "LCT" ship during the Pacific Theater before his honorable discharge in 1946.
Employed at Bell Labs in Murray Hill, Henry worked as a pipe fitter prior to his retirement. He was credited with helping to developing a technique to pull lead communication cables through conduit.
Henry was a humble man. He was proud to have performed the welding on the first Atomic Submarine, "The Nautilus." In addition, he was a member of the South Plainfield Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post #6763, American Legion Chaumont Post 243 and a life member of the Polish National Home. He also enjoyed Polka dancing which is also what lead him to meet and marry the former Magdalena "Leni" Seider.
Predeceased is a daughter, Linda Przybowski, surviving are his beloved wife; Leni, a daughter; Teresa Seitzmeyer and her husband, Robert, a son; Henry and his wife, Nancy Borton, four grandchildren; Rebecca Seitzmeyer, Tracy Sesta and her husband Mike, Michael Przybowski and wife Courtney and Christopher Przybowski and fiancé, Ariane. Also left to cherish his memory are five great grandchildren; Grace, Brian, Julia, Matthew and Logan and his loyal canine, Daisy.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2011 at 9:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080, followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Military Honors will follow mass with committal services taking place privately.
Family and friend may attend the visitation hours on Friday July 1, 2011 from 5-8 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that memorial donations be made in Henry's honor to the Plainfield Area Humane Society, 75 Rock Ave., Plainfield, NJ 07063 or the South Plainfield VFW, 155 Front Street, South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
