Bridgewater, NJ - Viola S. Pratt, whom was "17 at heart" passed away on June 18, 2017 at Bridgeway Care Center in Bridgewater. Born in Queens, NY to her late parents Giovanni and Concetta (Galata) Sommese, she spent her adult life while raising her children in Plainfield and settled to South Plainfield in 1991. In 1989, Viola retired from the City of Plainfield where she worked as the Registrar of Vital Statistics for many years. Prior to, she was a nurse's aide for Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield. She was an avid reader and an amazing chef and baker. For the last twenty years, she belonged to The Church of the Sacred Heart in South Plainfield. Predeceased by her daughter Nancy Ruth Pratt in 1969 and eight siblings, she leaves behind her loving sons and their spouses; William H. and Cheryl Anne Richardson of Silver Spring, MD, Thomas J. and Karen of Glendale, AZ and John W. and Sandra D'Alessandro of South Plainfield and her cherished grandchildren; Michael and his wife Sarah, Krystal, Lincoln and his wife Kyrie, McCay, and Emilie. Visitation will take place on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 5-9pm at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080. On Wednesday, June 21, 2017, family and friends are invited to the funeral home beginning 10:00 am with funeral services beginning at 10:30 am. Thursday, June 22, 2017, Viola will be laid to rest in the family plot of Cherryville Cemetery in Flemington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
