Obituary of Colleen Zitsch

Colleen Zitsch, 64, of South Plainfield, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2017 at JFK Medical Center in Edison, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Elizabeth to the late James and Victoria Dougherty (Zolnierski), Colleen was a graduate of Immaculata High School in Somerville. Colleen worked for Sears in Watchung where she met her late husband, Robert W. Zitsch and went on to settle in South Plainfield where they raised their daughter Stephanie. Colleen was active with the former Plainfield Elks, now the Elks of Watchung Hills #885, and a past four time Exalted Ruler of the Plainfield Elks. She enjoyed cooking, baking, and holidays spent with her family. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Robert W. Zitsch in 2006, and his parents Donald and Edna Zitsch. Surviving are her cherished daughter, Stephanie Zitsch of South Plainfield, her dear brothers Michael Dougherty and wife Patricia and James Dougherty and wife Joan, brother in law Donald Zitsch and wife Pamela, her nieces and nephews, Jimmy, Jenny and husband Joseph, Jackie and husband Jason, Michael and companion Bunnie, Kathy and husband Brian, Chris and wife Erin, Wayne and wife Katherine, and Douglas, her dear great-nieces and nephews, Connor, Alex, Emily, Brian, Annabelle, Sophia, and Henry. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00PM at the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00AM on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at The Church of the Sacred Heart, South Plainfield. Family and friends are welcome to gather at the funeral home at 9:00AM Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
