South Plainfield, NJ - Philip Burrell, 88, of South Plainfield N.J. passed peacefully in Florida on March 14, 2016. Born in Plainfield, Philip was a long time communicant of Sacred Heart Church of South Plainfield. A Navy veteran, he served on the air craft carrier USS Philippine Sea during the transport of Rear Admiral Byrd to the South Pole. Philip, an avid hunter, fisherman, and craftsman, he enjoyed carving decoy ducks for family and friends. Philip and his wife Viola enjoyed their retirement wintering in the Florida Keys for the past twenty years. His favorite pastime was being on the water with his fishing buddies.
He is predeceased by his daughter Diane Jenkins and his son James Burrell. Philip is survived by his loving wife, Viola A. Also survived by daughter Carol Wheeler and husband Randy of Florida, his two sons Thomas Burrell and wife Carmela, of Piscataway, Richard Burrell and wife Frances, of Bound Brook, his eight grandchildren, sister Gloria McCarthy of Connecticut and brother Donald Burrell and wife Patricia, of Colorado.
Visitation will be held on Friday, April 15, 2016, at McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 from 3pm-7pm and on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 8:45 am until 9:15 am. Funeral services will begin 9:15 am in the funeral home on Saturday April 16, 2016 followed by a 10:00 am funeral mass at The Church of the Sacred Heart of South Plainfield. Mausoleum entombment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum in South Plainfield.
