Obituary of Joseph R. Szunyog

Joseph R. Szunyog, 77, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2017 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, Joe settled to South Plainfield in 1973. He worked for PSE&G for his entire career retiring in 1997 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves for 20 years. Mr. Szunyog enjoyed fishing, gardening and vacationing with his family in Wildwood Crest. Joe also enjoyed spending time at South Plainfield Senior Center where he drank his coffee talking amongst friends, reading his newspaper at the South Plainfield Public Library and attending the Westfield YMCA. In addition, he was an avid supporter of his grandchildren's activities and sporting events. He is predeceased by his parents Joseph and Elizabeth Szunyog and his sister Dorthy Wrubel. He is survived by his daughters, Jennifer Szunyog of Manalapan and Elizabeth Graves and her husband Glenn of South Plainfield; grandchildren, Nicholas, Christopher and Allison and his dear and beloved friend, Marilyn Szunyog. Relative and friends will be gathering for visitation on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 beginning at 4pm in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave. South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by prayer services and the rendering of military honors starting 6:30pm in the funeral home. Cremation Services and inurnment of Joe's cremated remains will be held privately.
