Obituary of George A. Palir

George A. Palir, 84, passed away early Sunday morning, March 5, 2017 in CareOne at Somerset Valley in Bound Brook. Born in Hazelton, PA., George grew up in Freeland, Upper Lehigh, PA and had resided in Middlesex for over 50 years. Mr. Palir served in the US Army during the Korean War as a Rifle Squad Leader earning the rank of Corporal prior to his honorable discharge in 1961. He was employed by the former National Starch and Chemical Company in Plainfield as a Maintenance Mechanic, retiring in 1996. George enjoyed making and celebrating his homemade wine, spending time on his boat and tending to his immaculate yard but his true enjoyment in life was fishing. He was a Charter Member of Round Valley Trout Association for over 30 years serving 24 years as the association trustee. He was a volunteer for State of New Jersey Division of Fish & Wildlife and a former member of the Middlesex Elks Lodge. Predeceased by his wife Eleanor who died in 2015, Mr. Palir is also predeceased by his son George who died in 1983. Surviving are his daughter Maryann Hall of Middlesex and his sister Elizabeth Hannigan of PA. Also surviving are several extended relatives and dear friends. Relatives and friends will be joining together for visitation on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 1:00-3:00PM in the Middlesex Funeral Home 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ. Cremation burial services will take place the following week at Resurrection Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Round Valley Trophy Trout Program, Lebanon, NJ.
