Obituary of Filomena Renda

Middlesex, NJ - Filomena Renda, 90, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family on April 11, 2016. Born in Mottafollone, Italy to her late parents Michele and Maria Luisa (Basile) Renda, she immigrated to the United States in 1956, spending the last fifty-six years in Middlesex. Filomena enjoyed spending time with her family. She could often be found cooking, playing the slot machine at the casino, and tending to her vegetable garden. She expressed her love to others through food and celebrated life surrounded by homemade wine, Italian food and family. She enjoyed singing traditional Italian songs reminiscing of her hometown and she was a wonderful story teller who could have anyone laughing one minute and crying the next. She was witty, loving, energetic, full of life and was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend. She is predeceased by her son Carmen who died in 1965, husband Francesco in 1997 and her siblings; brothers Carlo, Gaetano, Antonio, Luigi, Carmelo, and sisters Franceschina, Sistina, Arcangela and Maria Teresa. Filomena is survived by her four sons and their wives; Michael and Nancy of Florida, Oscar and Raquel of Texas, Rudolph and Maria of Texas and Ernie and Liz of Readington, NJ. She also leaves behind her sister Maria Zupi of Italy, fourteen grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place in Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on Friday, April 15, 2016 from 2-4 & 7-9pm and on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 8:15 am until 8:45 am. Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 16, 2016 in the funeral home beginning 8:45 am followed by a 9:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Parish in Middlesex. Filomena will be laid to rest in the family plot of Holy Redeemer Cemetery in South Plainfield. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
