Obituary of Geraldine L. Geri"" Cursi

Edison - Geraldine "Geri" L. (Mathis) Cursi, 81, died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Kindred Hospital New Jersey in Rahway. Born and raised in Rahway, Geri resided in Avenel and Metuchen before settling to Edison in 1955. Geri was a hardworking and determined women. At a young age, Geri had to make a tough decision to quit school and take a job to help raise her younger siblings. She initially worked for a Laundry Co. and later for Beecham Pharmaceutical as a switchboard operator and had also been a hair dresser for a short time. During those years, she was a devoted wife, mother and sister. Later Geri returned to school, finished her education and became a real estate agent, working for Century 21 in Edison. She enjoyed gardening and was known as the "flower lady" in the neighborhood and enjoyed volunteering during her children's younger years while their participated in organized sports. Additional, she had a special affinity for St. Jude Children's Hospital and would sponsor a child through the organization. She is predeceased by her husband who died January of 2005; Salvatore Sr. and her sister; Dolores. Surviving are her four children; Salvatore Jr., Kathleen Cursi, Patricia Haskins and her husband, Steve, and Leonard Cursi and his wife Debra. Two sisters; Marion Witkowski and Lorraine Kubish and three brothers; Harry, George and Ralph "Sonny" Mathis. She will also be missed by eight grandchildren; Sal Jr., Jamey, Andrew, Dawn, Lee, Nicole, Kristina and Jonathan and seven great grandchildren; Keoni, Tajaira, Adriana, J.J., Nico,Shayne and Carlin. Funeral services will begin on Wednesday May 15, 2013 at 9:15AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia. Family and friends may attend visitation on Tuesday, May 14th from 2-4PM & 7-9PM in the funeral home.
