Obituary of Kathleen Barretta

South Plainfield - Kathleen Barretta, 77, of South Plainfield died Tuesday January 7, 2020 University Hospital in Newark. Born on Staten Island, NY to the late Albert and Kathleen Connard, Kathleen resided on the Island until 1972 when she settled to South Plainfield. Kathleen worked for IEEE in Piscataway for 24 years before her retirement and was a former member of the Staten Island Retirees of Port Ivory Organization. A communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, Kathy belonged to the Altar Rosary Society and participated in many church functions and activities. An avid family woman Kathy enjoyed trips to Disney, family gatherings, many bus trips with her husband and many friends but most importantly she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Survived by her husband, Thomas Barretta of 59 years; two daughters, Lisa Abate and her husband Joseph of South Plainfield and Donna Brown and her husband Everett of Millstone Township; son, Thomas “T.J.” Barretta of Edison; three sisters, Maureen Santorelli and her husband Vincent of Manchester, Patricia Grobarcik and her husband Joseph of Florida and Linda Gelardi of Florida and her brother, Thomas Connard and his wife Linda of Florida. She will also be missed by her four grandchildren, Elizabeth, Melissa, Mary and Jessica as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2020 at 9:30AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass in Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church at 10:30AM. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-8 in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in Kathleen’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital www.stjude.org
