Obituary of Stephen L. Prohaska
Stephen L. Prohaska, 58, unexpectedly passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2020 at his home in Winter Haven, Florida.
Born in Plainfield, Stephen resided in Piscataway for the majority of his life before recently relocating to Winter Haven, Florida.
He graduated from Piscataway High School in 1980 and attended the University of Tampa. In 1988, he began his 29 year career in Law Enforcement with the Piscataway Police Department, retiring in 2017 at the rank of Sergeant. During his career, he also served as a President and CEO of the Piscataway Twp Employees Federal Credit Union.
He was a motorcycle enthusiast, an avid golfer and a passionate coach to many in the community. He was well known throughout the entire community and he will be missed by all of his close friends and relatives.
Stephen was predeceased by his mother Mildred, father Leo and daughter Bethany. Steve is survived by his wife Amparo Leonard; his children, Brooke Prohaska, Benjamin Prohaska and Bryan Prohaska; his sister Nancy Tamsula and her husband George and their son Kevin; Amparo’s children, Luisa Hernandez and her husband Jay, Jairo Hernandez, Juan Hernandez and Leidy Jimenez, Kerry Leonard and Benedict Leonard. Also surviving Stephen are his grandchildren, Kendall, Khoury, Jayden and Alex.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 13, 2020 from 4:00-8:00pm at the Piscataway Funeral Home, 18 Stelton Rd. Piscataway, NJ 08854.
Cremation services will be held privately on Saturday, November 14, 2020.
Funeral mass of Stephen’s cremated remains will take place on Monday, November 16, 2020 at 10:30am at Our Lady of Fatima Church, Piscataway.
Following mass, Stephen's remains will be entombed in the Chapel of the Risen Christ Mausoleum at Resurrection Burial Park, Piscataway.
