Joe was a supportive supervisor for his teachers at Metuchen High School. He helped me write a federal grant that put the first color computers into the Metuchen Foods Lab. His business training and supervision didn't stop him from embracing the Home Economics classes, Auto Shop and Wood Shop he also cared for.
Once he came by to observe my class on short notice. I admitted I did not have the usual lesson but planed a reward lab for that class. They had done some outstanding work. He said "you reward your class"? I said yes, wondering if he would disapprove. "I am in, that is a great idea" was his response. He became part of the reward. As our guest he asked questions of the students and told jokes. He was a first rate educator.
I grieve with his family and those who knew him as and educator and a joyful presence after retirement. Marae McGhee

My Dear , Dear Justine,
My heart is broken for you. Just as he made everyone comfortable he made me so at home the first time I met him. What a good man he was. You both were so lucky to have each another. I just can't believe he is gone. Some day we shall all meet again and have the best Polish/Italian reunion. Justine, If you ever need anything please don't hesitate to call upon me.
Joe, I know you are in heaven telling all your wonder jokes and stories. Love you so much.

My heart is saddened by the loss of such a wonderful man. I will be forever indebted to Joe for being my supervisor, confidant and friend at Metuchen HighSchool for so many years Joe always saw the glass more than half full and brought such laughter to every situation. May your memory be for a blessing and all these wonderful tributes bring peace to Justine his first and number one love. Paula Greene

Joe dedicated 16 years and 3447 hours as a volunteer to humbly serve Saint Peter’s and our mission. Joe started volunteering in August 2003 and we are truly honored to have worked beside him. With his background in inspirational/motivational speaking and stand up comedy he brought so much joy and laughter to the lives he touched at Saint Peter’s. In the words of Joe, “For your own wellness, if you want to feel good inside, make someone else feel good inside.” (www.joecardone.com, 5/17/2007)
He brightened the day of all those he met. Joe dedicated much of his time with our Oncology patients and Pastoral Care team. Joe will be truly missed, and our team will continue to make a difference in Joe’s memory.
Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and friends. May God give you peace and comfort during this difficult time.
The Volunteer Team at Saint Peter’s University Hospital

While I did not have Joe as a teacher at MHS, he was my supervisor in Metuchen and the person who hired me for this fantastic job in this great district, that he helped make great. He was very kind and friendly and made my first year teaching in Metuchen a breeze. My he rest in the arms of the angels.

One of those angels that God places along our path to change it forever. Joe is part of all that is now around us, constantly there. Another kindred spirit that watches over us.

Great neighborhood gatherings included Joe and Justine. Lots of laughter, joke telling, good food and wine and lifelong friendships. Not to mention rider mower races in the Cardones and Longacres back yards! I will always be able to hear Joe in my mind, rapidly rattling off one liners. Eternally grateful for the wonderful memories of growing up with the loving and caring neighbors on Mitchell Ave
