Obituary of Lalitha Sastry

Lalitha Sastry, 81, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 21, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.

Born in India in 1941, Lalitha was well-traveled and lived in India, England, and several other countries prior to immigrating to the United States in 1990. She initially resided in Piscataway, New Jersey before settling in South Plainfield in 2002.

Lalitha married Viswanatha Sastry in 1960 and together they raised three wonderful daughters: Rekha, Radhika, and Renuka. Lalitha thoroughly enjoyed cooking and loved to share meals with her family. She also loved music, particularly bhajans, and enjoyed Indian musical talent shows.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, Viswanatha Sastry; three daughters: Rekha Laks, Radhika Desai, and Renuka Vasthare; sons-in-law: Duraiyappan Lakshminarayanan, Gopal Desai, and Ashe Vasthare; six grandchildren, Aparna Desai, Varun Lakshminarayanan, Akshay Desai, Natasha Vasthare, Nikhil Vasthare, and Veena Laks; as well as by her sister and brother.

The Sastry family will be receiving relatives and friends on Friday, February 24, 2023 from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue South Plainfield NJ 07080, and again from 1:00 PM – 2:45 PM at Franklin Memorial Park, 1800 NJ-27, North Brunswick Township, NJ 08902.
