Obituary of Bruce Colvil

Please share a memory of Bruce to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Bruce Gerard Colvil, 70, of Piscataway, New Jersey, passed away with loved ones by his side on March 29th, 2023. Born in Staten Island, NY on March 30th, 1952, to Muriel Katz and Gerard Colvil, Bruce was a graduate of Port Richmond High School, and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He returned from service and started attending The College of Staten Island, where he met his beloved wife & best friend, Geralyn. They married in 1985 and had two children, Robert and Stephanie. Bruce and his family moved to Piscataway, New Jersey, in 1996, and he later attended Rutgers University. He had many careers, and his most recent and most meaningful work was as a school bus driver for special needs children.

Bruce was an integral part of establishing the National Air Defense Radar Museum in Ohio. He loved history and preservation; playing and appreciating music; airplanes, cars, and riding motorcycles with his brothers all along the east coast; traveling, mountains, and vacationing in Wells, NY; ancestry and family research; computers and technology; building models and reading. He rooted for the Yankees; read all the Dune books; watched Star Trek: The Original Series over and over; and never tired of listening to The Beatles.

He was predeceased by his mother, Muriel Katz; stepfather, Robert Katz; maternal grandparents, Alfred & Martha Bouchard; paternal grandparents, Findlay & Anna Colvil; father-in-law, William Boyland; and brother-in-law, Stephen Boyland.

Bruce is survived by his wife, Geralyn; his son, Robert; his daughter, Stephanie & his son-in-law, Daniel Pieper; his brothers Brian Colvil and Brett Colvil, his sister Beth DeCanio, sisters-in-law Mary Colvil and Debbie Arias, brothers-in-law Chris DeCanio and Andrew Arias; his father, Gerard Colvil; his mother-in-law Alice Boyland; and many beloved nephews and nieces, extended family, and friends. His endless curiosity, passion for politics, and his ingenuity with binder clips will be a continual inspiration. His intelligence, wit, and irreplaceable spirit will be missed forever.

To respectfully honor Bruce’s wishes, there will not be a funeral service. The family will be having a Celebration of Life at a later date.

If you would like to honor Bruce’s memory, please make a donation to your local historic preservation organization, local children's hospital or Shriners Children's Hospital, or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
