In memory of Jeffrey DeChellis who was an extraordinary man. He truly loved his family, friends, and co-workers. Working as a paramedic he devoted his life to serving others, always with great care and compassion. Now he joins the angels and will fly free; but his radiant spirit will continue to live on through the lives of those who knew and loved him. Although our paths crossed only for a brief time he was my friend and he touched my life.
"Jeff, I will always remember you with love and appreciation. Thank you for your friendship and your kindness."

I hope you can now see how you touched the lives of so many people. It was so much more than an honor and a privilege to be your partner. Don’t worry about the speed humps. I’ll miss you always.

Jeff was a brilliant mind and a kind soul. He was my teacher, my hype man, and my friend. He gave me confidence when I had none. When I wanted to quit medic school, he pushed me back in. When I was afraid to get on the truck, he assured me he was only a phone call away and he would never let me fail. If I had to choose one person who made the biggest impact on my professional life, it would be him; he taught me everything I know. He made me want to be a better provider for my patients, and for myself. He was a fierce advocate for his patients, his students, his staff, and his partners. He never complained when we called for help, no matter how trivial, or what time of day it was; he often drove straight to us after clocking out of his overnight shift on the helicopter to reassure us, or put out a fire we started.
I will forever miss our lunch dates, (I hope he’s having all the Mongolian BBQ he can handle right now) and our 3h chats while I was driving home to Maryland after a shift in NJ. I’ll miss his sarcasm, his laugh, how adoringly he spoke of children, and how he was able to make even the worst of times seem like minor bump in the road. He was one of the best friends I’ve ever had, and I love him so very much.
I am heartbroken he’s left us but I’m so happy, and so fortunate, to have had him in my life. Those of us who were lucky enough to know and learn from him will carry him with us forever. The world is a better place for having him in it, and he will be incredibly missed.

Jeff was a brilliant man, amazing flight partner and treasured friend. I miss our nights on the helicopter. We would talk for hours. He loved and treasured his family and was so very proud of them. His knowledge was unmatched and I feel so blessed he shared some with me. Quit spoken. Always thoughtful. Fly high Jeff!! You truly made an impact and will never be forgotten..

We will miss you Jeff! Thank you for everything you taught me along the way, and for the time you took to educate and elevate all those around you. We are all better for having known you, as are the patients who rely on us every day. You taught so many of us that passion is necessary to do the job, and that the facts matter when it comes to proving the value of prehospital care. I know those lessons will stick with me throughout my time in this profession, and I am truly grateful that our paths crossed when they did. Rest in peace, my friend.

I didn't get to know Jeff very well. However, the few times that I had the opportunity to interact with Jeff, I found him to be professional and knowledgeable as a respiratory therapist, flight paramedic and instructor. In fact, each time that I had the pleasure of meeting Jeff I would learn a lot from having him share with me his knowledge and clinical experiences. For those reasons, I would always look forward to the next time that I would meet up with Jeff.
My sympathies go out to Jeff's family and friends.

Jeff impacted so many lives throughout his lifetime. It was always heartfelt to hear of his accomplishes and accolades throughout his life. He was one to meet diversity head on, never backing down from a challenge and always befriending the underdog. Jeff leaves behind a void in so many lives, but he also leaves behind a treasure trove of happy memories.
Jeff, Thank you for the positive impacts you made in so many lives and across so many spectrums and thank you for showing us that anything is possible, you just have to "Believe in yourself".
No more pain, dear sole. Rest in eternal Peace.
Always in my thoughts,
Jeffrey A. Dunn

My favorite thing about Jeff was that I could call him at any time and ask about clinical cases. He would text me cases and help me further my critical thinking abilities. It was always something medically obscure that I could never guess! I can’t thank him enough for the amount of time he spent bettering me as a provider and just being a friend. I’ll miss him forever.

Also, as many of you already know this past Wednesday we lost Paramedic / Flight Paramedic Jeff Dechellis. This Tuesday would have been Jeff's 42nd anniversary working at Atlantic. He began at Overlook Atlantic as a Respiratory Therapy Technician on 2/21/1982. He was on the Westfield First Aid Squad at the time, and in Paramedic school at University of Medicine and Dentistry in Newark. He started as a Paramedic at Overlook on July 7th of 1983 as NJ Paramedic Cert 585. During his time at Atlantic, he was also a CPR Instructor, an ACLS instructor, and one of the original Flight Paramedics when we started Atlantic Air One in 2005. Jeff also worked at Somerset and JFK as a Paramedic and Clinical Coordinator. Above all else, Jeff had a passion around helping his partners - old and new - become better clinicians. He quietly went thru life finding ways of helping make people better.
Rest easy Jeff. You will be missed terribly.

We meet in 1978 in our senior year of high school in Westfield. We became inseparable. A few years later he asked me to marry him at Echo Lake and we were engaged for a while. I loved him very much. He was kind, generous and funny. And the dancing-was incrediable. It’s been over thirty years since we decided marriage was way too complicated and since we last spoke. I still love his family including his very fun parents, sister Debbie and brother Rick. He was a proud Italian, loved his family very much. He was very proud of his father and being a co-owner of Westfield Plumbing. We were apart of a larger group of that went everywhere on weekends in High school. Dancing to Rocky Horror in the Mountainside Friendlies parking lot, dancing in Clubs in Rt.22, bowling, the shore, tennis, racket ball, diners, concerts and going into the city are just some of our great memories. He had such a cool car- brown Grand Torino was and would have gone anywhere together. He took care of us and was such a good friend. God Speed Jeff, you’re going to make a great Angel!!!
Love, Chris (Pallagrosi) Sherman
