Obituary of Henrietta Marie DiCenso
Henrietta Marie "Dolly" DiCenso, a woman ahead of her time, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on June 5, 2024 .
Born to the late Emilio and Millie DiCenso, Dolly was raised in Plainfield, where she graduated from Plainfield High School. She later resided in Piscataway and Edison Township before making Toms River her home.
Dolly was a true trailblazer, dedicating over 40 years to Dreier's Sporting Goods Store, where she played an integral role in operating and managing the store alongside her longtime partner, Bernie Dreier. Her success in a male-dominated industry stands as a testament to her determination and skill.
An avid reader, Dolly had a passion for bowling, playing bingo, and spending time with her friends and family. In her retirement, she actively participated in several bowling leagues, enjoying the sport well into her 80s. She also had a keen interest in current events and politics. Above all, Dolly treasured the time spent with her family, becoming a second "mother" to her nieces and nephews.
Dolly was known for her generous spirit, always willing to lend a helping hand to friends and family. Her kindness and willingness to support those she loved will be remembered by all who knew her.
Dolly is predeceased by her two sisters, Angie “Babe” Serido and Nancy Parenti. She is survived by her niece, Carol Brennan and husband Tim; her nephews, Tony Serido and wife Linda, David Serido and wife Virginia, Angelo Parenti and wife Eileen, and Michael Parenti and wife Anna. She also leaves behind many great-nieces, great-nephews, and great-great-nephew, all of whom she adored. She is also leaving behind her precious pug, Chloe, who was her faithful companion in the later years of her life.
Funeral services will be held at McCriskin – Gustafson Home for Funerals on June 13, 2024 at 9:00am. A Funeral Mass will be at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield beginning 10:30am. Family and friends are welcome to attend and celebrate Dolly’s remarkable life.
Entombment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.
