Obituary of Mary J. Witteman
Mary J. Witteman, 95, passed away Sunday Morning, September 1, 2024 at the Delany of Bridgewater.
Born in Holland Mary lived through WWII, including the German invasion and as a teenager, immigrated to the United States initially settling to the Patterson area. Mary and her late husband, Adrian, settled to Green Brook in 1968 where she raised her children and started their family business. A hardworking pair, they established a whole sale florist in Green Brook which grew geraniums, tulips and hyacinths and operated until 2020.
After retirement, Mary enjoyed traveling home to Holland and going on cruises. She also raised canaries, enjoyed watching birds, the deer in her yard and the flowers that grew in her yard. Mary was proud of the home she kept, baking and making soup – her specialty.
Predeceased by her husband, Adrian Witteman; daughter, Christina Witteman and brother, Peter deGroot; surviving are her two sons, Donald Witteman and his wife Marcy and Adrian Witteman, Jr. and wife Barbara. She will also be missed by her five grandchildren, George, Samantha, Robert, Tori and Chris and two great grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, September 5, 2024 at 10:30AM in Our Lady of Mount Virgin RC Church, Middlesex followed by burial in Calvary Cemetery, 58 McLean Blvd., Paterson NJ.
Family and friends may gather in Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex NJ 08846 prior to mass beginning at 9AM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to either The Raptor Trust, 1390 White Bridge Road, Millington NJ 07946 or to Our Lady of Mount Virgin, 600 Harris Avenue, Middlesex NJ 08846.
