Obituary of Shawn Joseph Welichko
Middlesex, NJ – Shawn Welichko, 23, passed away at JFK Medical Center in Edison on Sunday, September 15, 2024 with his loving family at his bedside. Born in Somerville, Shawn grew up in North Plainfield and moved to Middlesex three years ago.
He loved working with kids as an assistant at daycares in Piscataway. Shawn spent countless hours making music and he enjoyed skateboarding and could often be found drawing.
His infectious laugh will be missed by all those that knew him. He is survived by his mother, Laura Villacis of Middlesex; father Chester Welichko of Frenchtown, and his sisters; Lissette Brown and her husband Devin of North Plainfield and Christine Villacis of Middlesex. Shawn is also survived by his extended family; nieces and nephews; Sasha and Jennifer Salazar, Mason, Mia and Melanie Garcia, aunts and uncles; Silvana and Jorge “Edu” Villacis, Narciza Salazar and Gonzalo, Paul and Licia Villacis, grandparents Bertha Garces and Jorge Villacis and his cousins; Katherine Gutierrez and her husband Jorge Gutierrez, Emely Tacco, Tommy and Sebastian Villacis, Denise, Andres, Gabriel Tacco, and Johanna and Monica Salazar.
Visitation will be held at Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on Sunday, September 22, 2024 from 3:00pm until 8:00pm and on Monday, September 23, 2024 beginning 9:30am. Prayers will begin 10:00am in the funeral home on Monday followed by a 10:30am funeral mass at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church in Middlesex. Shawn will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery in Scotch Plains.
Shawn was a giving person who was able to save the lives of others through Organ and Tissue Donation with the NJ Sharing Network. Although flowers are accepted for Shawn’s services, please consider a donation to assist with research to help those who suffer with mental health and depression.
