Obituary of Philip J. Thomas
South Plainfield – Philip J. Thomas, 73, passed away early Sunday morning, December 8, 2024 at JFK Medical Center.
Born in Newark to Philip A. and the late Frances Thomas, Philip is a lifelong resident of South Plainfield. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Immaculata High School. Philip continued his studies at William Penn College then went on to work for L.A. Dreyfus as an environmental chemist then Presperse as a cosmetic chemist until his retirement.
A communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church, Philip was also a 4th Degree Knight with the South Plainfield Knights of Columbus, Council 6203. He held a board member position with the Sacred Heart Athletic Association as well as the South Plainfield Pop Warner Football.
In his free time, Philip enjoyed watching T.V. especially classic movies as well as taking cruises. Above all, Philip cherished the time he spent with his children and grandchildren and making sure they we driven safely to and from their sporting events or school in the “Poppy Van”.
Predeceased by his mother, Frances Thomas; surviving are his wife of 48 years, Kathleen (LoCollo) Thomas and their four children, Stacey Resnick and husband Wayne, Philip M. Thomas and wife Amie, Kyle Thomas and Heather Thomas; cherished grandchildren, Bailey , Presley, Bradley, Logan, Dylan, Penelope, and Eloise.
Philip will also be missed by his father, Philip A. Thomas, siblings, Gloria Thomas, Eileen Milicia, and Frances Thomas; brother and sister in law, Michael and Cathy LoCollo and his nieces and nephews, Bryan and Stephanie Milicia, Jeanne and Sal Catalano and Dayne LoCollo.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 at 9AM in the McCriskin – Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield at 10AM.
Burial will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
Family and friends may gather in the funeral home on Thursday, December 12, 2024 from 2-4PM and 7-9PM.
