Obituary of Myron Metro Harvist
Myron Harvist of Murrells Inlet, SC, passed away on December 3, 2024 at the age of 77, msurrounded by his loving wife and daughters at MUSC Hospital in Charleston. Born on October 19, 1947, in Pottsville, PA, to the late Metro and Mary Harvist, Myron and his family moved to New Jersey, where he graduated from Bridgewater Raritan High School West in 1965. He later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science/Information Systems from Rutgers
University while working full-time. He enjoyed a successful career as a programmer and consultant at Warner Lambert and Munics Information Systems, retiring in 2017.
A passionate golfer, Myron was drawn to the sunny shores (and lower taxes) of South Carolina in 2009 where he played golf, pickleball, and swam at the nearby beach or pool. He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church and served on the board of the Sweetwater Condominium Homeowners Association. Myron loved telling jokes and was delighted by a good bargain, but most of all, he enjoyed connecting with family and friends.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 22 years, Joan; his daughters, Megan Harvist of Norwalk, CT, and Tara and son-in-law, Joe Longo of Cherry Hill, NJ; granddaughters, Mia and Jillian Longo; his former wife and mother to Megan and Tara, Carol Harvist of Branchburg, NJ; and his two sisters, Eleanor Nieliwocki and Kathryn Perlman, both of Bonita Springs, FL. Myron will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Murrells Inlet, SC, on January 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. A memorial gathering will be held at Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ 08846 on May 31, 2025 from 11am until 1pm. Concluding prayers will begin at 12:30pm . In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Myron’s memory to Help4Kids ( https://www.help4kidssc.org/ ), or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital ( https://www.stjude.org/ ).
