John " Johnnie" Sheehan
Edison - John "Johnnie". Sheehan, 74, died at home in Edison.
Known to many as "Uncle Johnnie", he was born and raised in the Bronx, NY, and has resided in Edison for the past 32 years.
For many years he worked for the former Smith's Transfer Corp and American Freight Trucking Companies.
He is a member of the Teamsters Local #560 in Union City and Teamsters Local # 701 in North Brunswick. He was also a member of the Metuchen American Legion Fugel Hummer Post # 65.
Johnnie was an avid NY Giants fan enjoyed fishing and vacationing on cruises.
He is pre-deceased by his brothers; Joseph, James and Cornelius Sheehan.
Surviving are his 5 sisters; Patricia Varecha and her husband Joe of Hicksville, NY, Eileen Pike of Edison, Catherine Evans and her husband John of Jupiter, FL., Mary Burr of Tucson, AZ., and Josephine Bernard and her husband Rod of East Norton, PA., and his brother Thomas and his wife Edie of Monroe, NY. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funeral, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at 10:15 AM at St. Francis of Assisi Cathedral in Metuchen.
Interment of his cremated remains will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Queens, NY.
Donations can be made to the charity of choice.
