Victor M. Skowronski North Plainfield - Victor M. Skowronski, 83, died on Sunday, June 9, 2007 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born in Cleveland, Ohio and raised in Dunellen, he lived there until moving to North Plainfield in 1949, were he as lived ever since. Victor was an installation and conveyor foreman for almost 40 years, working first at J.T. Spivey in Edison, S&R Conveyors in North Plainfield, and then at Rapistan in Piscataway until his retirement in 1986. Mr. Skowronski served in the US Marine Corps during WWII, 4th Divison, 24th Regiment. Victor was deployed to the Pacific, where he proudly served in 4 major campaigns: Roi-Namur, Saipan, Tinian and Iwo Jima. The 4th Marine Division received numerous honors including the Presidential Citiation and Navy Unit Commendation for its courage and bravery. He was honorably discharged in 1946. He was a member of the Plainfield Veterans of Foreign War Post 506. Mr. Skowronski was an avid sportsman and accomplished athlete. He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in 1940, but decided to forgo a baseball career and instead enlisted in the Navy. While in the Marine Corps, he played football for the Undefeated "Fighting Fourth." He enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling & golf. Most importantly, Victor was an active and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was involved in many of his children's and grandchildren's activities. He was pre-deceased by his 3 brothers: Edward ("Whitey"), Stanley and Walter and by his sister Bertha Hahn. Surviving are his wife of 58 years, Rose, a daughter Joan and her husband George Jaghab, his Son Michael Skowronski and his wife Hollie Gilroy, and his 5 grandchildren, Daniel, Peter, Michael, Joseph and Max. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 12, 2007 at 8:45 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at St. Joseph's RC Church, North Plainfield, NJ Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains. Visitation will be held on Monday, June 11, 2007 From 2-4 &7-9 PM in the funeral Home. ">
