Alfred "Alfie Schroeder
South Plainfield - Alfred L. "Alfie" Schroeder, 59, died Friday morning, March 20, 2009 at home surrounded by his loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Plainfield, Alfie has been a lifelong resident of South Plainfield.
He was a mechanic by trade and worked for several car dealerships throughout the Central Jersey area.
A member of the Plainfield Counrty Clubs' West- 9 Tuesday night's Men's Golf League, Alfie had a love for deep sea fishing. Year after year he traveled throughout North and South America as well as the Carribbean participating in world wide fishing tournament and events.
A meticulous "jack of all trades" there was not a task or job Alfie could not perform, you name it he could do it and would accomplish the project with excellence.
He was a well known and well loved man by the hundreds who knew him. He defined the word "Friendship" and was always more than willing to lend a helping hand irregardless of the task. His constant smile and upbeat personality created nothing but comfort to those around him.
Mr. Schroeder is pre-deceased by his parents; Evelyn (Toresco) and Alfred Jr.
Surviving are his beloved wife of 37 years; Debra (Pornovetz), his 2 adoring daughters; Stephanie Maher and her husband Brian of Hamilton and Alyssa Marin and her husband Edward of South Plainfield, his sister; Debbie Grego and her husband Joe also of South Plainfield and his brother William and his wife Andrea of Arizona. Also surviving are his 4 granddaughters; Isabelle and Mya Marin and Ava and Sophia Maher.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at 9:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080, followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Entombment will follow in Resurrection Burial Park Mausoleum, Piscataway
Visitation will be held on Monday from 2-4 & 6-9 PM in the funeral home.
In Lieu of flowers donation may be made to the Haven Hospice c/o of the JFK Medical Center, 65 James St., Edison, NJ 08818 or to the American Cancer Society- www.cancer.org.
