Helen Bernice Apgar Plainfield, NJ - Helen Bernice (Zywicki) Apgar, 91, died on Thursday June 3, 2010 at the JFK Medical Center Edison. She is the wife and mother of the late; Charles F. Apgar Sr. and Charles F. Apgar, Jr. Born and raised in Perth Amboy, Helen married and moved to Plainfield, NJ in 1942. She resided in Plainfield until 1978 upon the death of her husband. She settled to South Plainfield, residing with her niece and nephew for over twenty years, before recently entering the Woodlands Care Center. Helen was a member of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield and she enjoyed reading books and walking. She is predeceased by her husband, Charles F. Apgar in 1978, and her son, Charles F. Apgar Jr. who died in 1983. She is survived by a sister, Josephine Blackford of South Plainfield, her former daughter-in-law, Maria Lubrano, grandchildren; Charlotte Apgar Mooney, Linda Apgar Stone and Christina Apgar Lubrano, and by her nephew Paul Blackford and his wife Karen, with whom she lived. Also surviving is her dear great niece and nephew, Elizabeth and Brandon Blackford; several great grandchildren, a nephew, Charles and his wife, Carrie and their children. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 7, 2010 beginning 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield. Helen will be laid to rest in the family plot of Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Family and friend may attend the visitation hours on Sunday from 3-6 in the funeral home.
