James R. Duffy
South Plainfield - James R. Duffy, 75, died on Sunday, May 6, 2007 at the East Orange Campus of the VA Health Care System in East Orange
Born and raised in Elizabeth, Jim lived in Plainfield before settling in South Plainfield 33 years ago.
He worked as a car salesman at various car dealerships throughout central New Jersey for over 30 years.
An Army Veteran of the Korean Conflict and recipient of the Purple Heart and Distinguished Service Metal, Jim served with 24th Division, 5th Regimental Combat Team and earned the rank of Corporal before being honorably discharged in 1953.
In 2002, the State of New Jersey honored Jim for his heroism, bravery and service during the Korean Conflict by dedicating the Intersection of Interstate Highway Rte. 287 and County Road 529 in the Borough of South Plainfield as the "James Duffy Interchange."
A member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart, the Disabled American Veterans, and the 5th Regimental Combat Team Association, Mr. Duffy enjoyed working with his hands; especially woodworking.
He is survived by his wife Marie (Salzano) of 51 years, his 4 daughters and their husbands; Bernadette and Joseph Brander of North Plainfield, Ranee and Thomas Doherty of Westfield, Andrea and Jeffrey Meyer of also of North Plainfield, and Lisa and David Shaughnessy of Stroudsburg, PA., his sister Marilyn Corsentino and her husband John of Elizabeth, and 6 grandchildren; Heather Bissett, Thomas Doherty, Alicia Brander, Amy Jo Brander, Jeffrey Meyer Jr., and David Shaughnessy. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, May 10, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield.
Interment will follow in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
