Phillip S. Quagliariello South Plainfield - Phillip S. Quagliariello, 95, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at McCarrick Care Center in Somerset. Born in Brooklyn, NY, Phillip had resided in Edison before moving to South Plainfield in 1947. Employed for 33 years for the former Woodbrook Dairy Farms in Edison and later in Perth Amboy as a general utility worker, retiring in 1978. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Local 680 Milk Industry Workers Union. During WWII, he served in the infantry division as Sergeant with the US Army. He had been stationed in the European Theater and had been awarded the purple heart for injuries he received in battle. While in Africa, he was captured and held as a prisoner of war for twenty-five months. Phillip is a member of the Disabled American Veterans New Jersey State Chapter #28 and a member of the POW Chapter #1 of Fort Dix. He was a former member of the Oaktree Vol. Fire Company in Edison, were he held the position of Captain and is a Life member of the Exempt Fireman's Assoc. Of Edison Twsp as well as a member of the New Jersey State Exempts Fireman's Assoc. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield and a member of the Sacred Heart Senior Citizens, serving as president from 1978 -1991. He also served as the first president of the South Plainfield Senior Citizen's and he belonged to the So. Plainfield Adult School Seniors. He was predeceased by his wife Loretta "Lee" (Laquino) in 2005, his brothers: Andrew Quagliariello who was killed in action in WWII, Massimo, Anthony, Salvatore and Peter, and by his sister Rose Miller Surviving are his son Rev. Phillip J. Quagliariello (Laurie) of Belmar, daughter Donna Schleif (John) of Somerset, brother Victor and Ann of Union, three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 6, 2010 beginning 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00am funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield. Phillip will be laid to rest in the family plot of St. Gertrude Cemetery located in Colonia. Visitation will be in the funeral home on Friday, March 5, 2010 from 4-8 PM.
