"Retired Captain Merchant Marine"
Francis M. Corveleyn, 83, died on Monday August 18, 2008 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Plainfield, he grew up in Garwood and had resided in South Plainfield for many years before he and his wife retired to Hobe Sound, Florida in 1989.
A graduated of the US Merchant Marine Academy, he served from 1941 until his retirement in 1986. He achieved the rank of Captain and was awarded numerous medals for his service as a veteran of WWII, Korea Conflict and Vietnam War.
He was a former communicant of Sacred Heart RC Church in South Plainfield, a member of the Knights of Columbus in Florida and enjoyed spending time sailing and golfing.
Predeceased by is loving wife, Helene Mildred ( Gilje ) Corveleyn, he is the loving father of four sons and a daughter; Michael & Kathy Corveleyn and Kevin & MaryBeth Corveleyn all of South Plainfield. Eric & Judy Corveleyn of Coral Springs, Fl., Christopher & Cindy Corveleyn of Union and Remi & George of Flemington.
Also surviving are his beloved grandchildren, Stacey Halle, Jason, Samantha, Amanda, Marissa, Caitlyn, Claire, Laura, Olivia & Grace. His brothers, Robert & John and his sister, Rhoda Cappello.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 21, 2008 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008 from 4 -8 PM in the funeral home.
