Joseph L. Cerkvenik Hard working, beloved husband father and grandfather South Plainfield, NJ - Joseph L. Cerkvenik, 72, passed away on Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Haven Hospice located within JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Staten Island, NY, Joseph lived in Rahway for thirty years, Pennsylvania for a short time, and has been a resident of South Plainfield for five years. Joseph was Honorably Discharged from the United States Navy after serving his country for 4 years. After thirty years of employment from the Exxon, Bayway Refinery, he retired as a Process Operator. Joseph truly loved working, and has many certificates and recognition awards from Exxon. He was a member of the American Legion, Chaumont Post #243 of South Plainfield and could always be found working around his house, especially his house in Pennsylvania. He is predeceased by his three siblings; Walter, Anne and Milton. A wonderful husband of fifty years and devoted father, Joseph leaves behind his wife Thelma " Jeannie" and his children; Joseph and his wife Vickie of Ohio, Susan Cordes and her husband Stefan of California, Adam and his wife Jocelle of South Plainfield and Linda Szary and her husband Patrick of Hillsborough. He will be missed dearly by his five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and by his siblings; Loretta Toliski, Dorothy Bell, Lee Immitt, Evelyn Burtner and William Cerkvenik. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2009 beginning at 11:00 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by entombment services in the St. Gertrude's Cemetery Mausoleum, Colonia. Family and friends may attend the visitation on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Thursday from 10:30 AM until the service time.
