Mary E. Wood South Plainfield, NJ - Mary E. (White) Wood, 84, died peacefully on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Newark, Mary was a 1942 graduate of Our Lady of Good Counsel. She later married Salvatore Wood in 1956 and resided to Plainfield. She has been a resident of South Plainfield since 1990. She retired as secretary to the Chief Justice of the NJ Supreme Court in 1957, and helped work with meals on wheels during the 1980's. She enjoyed being a homemaker and spending time with her family. A communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield, she was a member of the ladies auxiliary of the Linden Council Knights of Columbus #2859. Mary leaves behind her devoted husband Salvatore Wood; her children; Sal Wood III and his wife Yolonda of Fanwood, Julia Wood and her husband Dominick Verdic of Scotch Plains, Chris and Sandra Wood of North Plainfield and Jerry and Janet Wood of Bricktown, NJ. She also is survived by her adored grandchildren; Jason and Justin Wood and Catherine, Caroline and Colleen Verdic along with her sister Margaret Martin of Weatherfield, CT and by many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 7, 2009 beginning 9:15 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church in South Plainfield. Entombment will follow in the Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum. Relatives and friends are invited to join with the family on Monday, July 6, 2009 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Tuesday from 8:45 AM until the service time.
