Obituary of Ruth Whitsitt

Ruth Whitsitt Silver Spring, MD - Ruth (Wood) Whitsitt, 84, died on Monday, October 11, 2010 at the Manor Care Health Services in Silver Spring, MD. Ruth was born and raised in North Carolina. She moved to Michigan where she met and Married Julius Terrill Whitsitt, had 5 children and moved to South Plainfield in 1967 when their youngest child, Linda, was 2 years old. In the spring of 2005 Ruth moved to Pennsylvania and this past July, her family moved her to Maryland. She worked for AT&T and Union Carbide both in Piscataway for several years. Ruth was a longtime member of the Wesley United Methodist Church in South Plainfield. She was a member Wesley United Methodist Women's Club and was active with F.I.S.H, an organization to help feed the homeless. Mrs. Whitsitt enjoyed walking around the Spring Lake Park in South Plainfield and attending the "Concerts in the Park " which are held on Sunday evenings in the summer. In addition Ruth participated in a neighborhood bible study group, was a class mother and a member of P.T.A. as well as a member the Junior Baseball Club Women's Auxiliary. Mrs. Whitsitt was extremely loving, giving, kind and patient and her family was very important to her. She was loved dearly by her family, friends, church and all who knew her. She is predeceased by her husband Julius who died in 1984, a son Michaell Terrill, a sister Naomi Johnson and 2 brothers; Willie and Isaac Wood. Surviving are her children; Barbara Carol Whitsitt of Ellicott City, MD, Linda Kaye Whitsitt of Laurel, MD, Gordon Wesley of Bethlehem, PA. and Wayne Ernest of Shohola, PA., her sisters; Caroline Martin of Forest City, NC, Annie Logan, Louise Logan and Rachel James all of Detroit, MI. and Joyce W. Richards of Harrison Twp., MI. and her brothers; Joseph Wood of Greenville, SC. and David Wood of Spindale, NC. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, October 15, 2010 at 11:00 AM at the Wesley United Methodist Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow in at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
