Anthony R. Malec
South Plainfield - Anthony R. Malec, 70, died suddenly on Thursday October 18, 2007 at his home.
Born in South Plainfield, Anthony has resided in the boro for most of his life and had served in the New Jersey National Guard.
After high school, he graduated from Bloomfield College with a Bachelors degree in History and later received his Masters Degree from Penn State. Anthony taught history for Madison Township and the Boro of South Plainfield Board prior to teaching at the Centennial Joint School District William Tenant High School in Johnsville, PA. He retired in 1966. In the early 1960's, he received an award for Outstanding Teaching from William Tenant.
Anthony was a true outdoors man who loved to hunt & fish and who's home was filled with all the fishing and hunting equipment needed. Although he could always be seen with a fishing pole in hand, his favorite passion was for archery. He was also an accomplished Trumpet player. He began playing in high school and continued to play today and was often seen playing at Sherban's Diner and local parks around the holidays.
His father, Walter, recently died in may of 2007, his mother, Teresa, died in July of 2006.
He is survived by his two dear sisters, Jane Doherty and Pat Kudrick along with her husband Jack, all who reside in South Plainfield. His two nephews, John Kudrick, DC and his wife Jen, and Jimmy Doherty, his niece, Teri Ann Doherty and his great niece and nephew, Taylor & Jack. Also surviving are many local friends and neighbors from his favorite local spots including Sherban's.
Funeral services will be held on Monday October 22, 2007 at 10:30 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, followed by a 11:30 AM funeral mass in Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield, NJ.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2007 from 2-5 PM in the funeral home.
