George L. Albertocki
South Plainfield- George L. Albertocki, 88, died on Saturday, January 20, 2007 in the Haven Hospice at Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born and raised in Newark, George moved with his family to South Plainfield and has resided here since 1955.
He joined the Newark Police Department in 1947 as one of the first class of new police officers after World War II. He served as a detective, retiring after 25 years in 1973. He then became a principal investigator for the New Jersey Public Advocates Office, retiring in 1987.
George proudly served during World War II as a platoon sergeant in the US Army. He participated in the "Battle of the Bulge" and was awarded a number of medals for his efforts including; the European African Middle Eastern Service Award, World War II Victory Medal, American Service Medal, and the Combat Infantry Medal. He was also bestowed with a Bronze Star for his actions. Before engaging in combat, George, was an instructor at the Officers Infantry School at Fort Benning, GA, where he trained young soldiers.
In addition, George was a member of the Policemen's Benevolent Association Local 3, the Police Honor Legion, the NJ State Retired Police and Firemen's Association Local 1 and the VFW Police Post # 1439.
Mr. Albertocki is predeceased by his wife Mary (Haladun) and 3 sisters, Pauline Albertocki, Mary Brescher, and Lucille Zanelli.
Surviving are 2 sons, George and his wife Elaine and Mark and his girlfriend Gail Sulinski all of South Plainfield.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the McCriskin Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield.
Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ.
Visitation will be Monday, January 22, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in George's name can be made to the Haven Hospice, c/o JFK Medical Center, 65 James St., Edison, NJ 08818.
