Lawrence J. Massaro South Plainfield - Lawrence J. Massaro, 77, died suddenly on Saturday October, 13, 2012 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born in Newark, Larry grew up in Kearny and resided in East Newark before settling to South Plainfield in 1965. Upon graduating from Queen of Peace High School in North Arlington, he served in the United States Army during the Korean War. Larry initially worked as the co-owner and operator of Milar Electro Devices. He later started Lordina Builders Inc. in South Plainfield which he owned and operated for 35 years prior to his retirement. Throughout most of his life, Larry was an active and committed volunteer for the Lion's Club. For over 50+ years of his membership, he served in various capacities from the state level (District 16D) to his hometown club in South Plainfield. Larry also had a love of horse racing. He co-owned several thoroughbred horses through the years and operated Hard Four Stables out of Monmouth Park. Larry was known to so many people, none more important than his family. His grandchildren affectionately called him "Budda," a name which he became known by many. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 52 years; Doris (Shaughnessy), a son; Lawrence Massaro and his wife Nancy of San Diego, CA, and two daughters; Lorri Brown and her husband Aaron and Dina Capparelli and her husband Brian all of South Plainfield, and a brother; Eugene Massaro and his wife Helen of South Plainfield and sister; Elvira Larsen and her husband Richard of Toms River. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; Samantha, Jennifer, Alex, Ashley, Cassie, Tracey, Emilia and Rachel all whom will deeply miss their "Budda." Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012 starting at 9:15AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to visitation on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 from 4-8 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in honor of Larry's memory to the South Plainfield Lion's Club, P.O. Box 721, South Plainfield NJ 07080 which will be donated in his memory to a charity of the family's choice.
