South Plainfield - Josephine (Dougherty) Poggio, 68, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 at her home surrounded by her family after a brief illness. Born in Corona, NY, she was raised in Flushing NY and had resided in South Carolina and Bayside Queens before settling to South Plainfield, NJ in 1972. Josephine was a familiar face at the former Green Farms store, later known as Oak Tree Farms in South Plainfield where she worked as the manager for many years prior to her retirement. She had been active locally with youth sports while her children where younger. She served in various volunteer capacities as well as the president of the South Plainfield Pop Warner Football Club. Additionally, she was instrumental in the development of the South Plainfield Domestic Violence Team and is an active member of the South Plainfield Juvenile Conference. Josephine found great happiness in attending all her children and grandchildren's various events and most recently enjoyed time traveling with her family. She is predeceased by her parents, Patrick and Josephine and her husband, Robert, who died in 2003. Surviving are her two sons, Anthony and his wife Kelley of White House Station, Michael and his wife Kimberly of South Plainfield; brother, Robert Dougherty and his wife Sue; sister, Rosanne Smith and her husband, Gary and brother inlaw, Aldo Poggio and his wife Genevieve. Also surviving are four grandchildren; Brianna, Michael, Jr., Christopher and Carly. Funeral services will begin on Tuesday, June 30, 2015 at 9:15 Am in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a Funeral Mass in Sacred Heart RC Church at 10 AM. Interment will follow mass in Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plain, NJ. Family and friends may join together for visitation on Saturday, June 27, 2015 from 2-4 & 6-9 Pm and Sunday from 6-9 PM in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donation in her memory may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Way, Memphis, TN 38105.
