Obituary of Yvonne A. Hook

Yvonne "Eve" Hook South Plainfield - Yvonne " Eve" Hook passed away suddenly on Friday, May 4, 2012 at Robert Wood John University Hospital in New Brunswick. Born in Newark, NJ to the late Irene (nee Mrvichin) and Ivan Gruytch, Eve grew up in Irvington and later married Alan R. Hook in 1967. They began their lives together in Irvington and moved to Korea upon Al's call to military service. They returned home and settled to South Plainfield in 1976 where she became a well known and active member of the community. Eve's employment began with the boro of South Plainfield as the welfare director and assisted in the payroll department prior to becoming a Teachers Aid for the South Plainfield Board of Education. She also served as a member of the Board of Education during that time. Her true passion was as an advocate for domestic violence awareness. She had been employed at the Middlesex County Rape Crisis Center and for Women Aware, Inc. in New Brunswick. She had served on the Middlesex County Commission for Child Abuse and Missing children, served as a member of the South Plainfield Juvenile Conference Commission for the past 35 years, ran the Silent Witness Program at Rutgers University and was a member the South Plainfield Domestic Violence Response Team. As devoted wife and mother, she found time to assist as a volunteer and coach for many of the local youth sporting organizations for many years. Eve had coached Pop Warner Cheerleaders, assisted with the recreation wrestling program, Pop Warner football and the Junior Baseball Club. She will be sadly missed by her surviving husband of 44 Years, Alan R. Hook, her son; Craig and his wife, Colleen, a sister; Marylou Deladvitch, a brother; Michael Ives and two beloved grandsons; Nolan and Hayden. Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation on Tuesday, May 8, 2012 from 4- 8 PM and Wednesday from 10:30 - 11:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 Funeral services will begin on Wednesday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home. Interment will follow in Hollywood Memorial Park, Union, NJ .
