Thaddeus "Teddy" Malecki
South Plainfield - Thaddeus "Teddy" Malecki Sr., 102, died peacefully at home early Thursday morning July 19, 2012.
Born in Old Forge, Pennsylvania, Teddy settled to South Plainfield in 1925.
Mr. Malecki worked for the former Art Color in Dunellen as a pressman until 1967 and in 1968 he began working for the South Plainfield High School as a custodian retiring in 1975.
A Veteran of WWII, Mr. Malecki served with the Army as a Rifleman and achieved the rank of Sergeant. While serving our country during the war, Teddy was awarded numerous decorations and citations. He was a recipient of three Bronze Battle Stars, Purple Heart, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Ribbon and the Victory Ribbon and was qualified as an Expert and Combat Infantryman as well as a Sharpshooter.
Mr. Malecki served a Charter Member as well as a three time Past President of the South Plainfield Polish National Home and is a member of the South Plainfield VFW Post 6763, the American Legion Chaumont Post 243 and the South Plainfield Senior Citizens.
He is predeceased by his wife the late Mary (Yurinko), two sisters; Chestelle Wrotny and Helen Oschanski and two brothers; Theophil Malecki Sr. and Felix Malecki Sr.
Surviving are his three children; Thaddeus Jr. and his wife Patti of Florida, Barbara Malecki and Dennis Malecki both of South Plainfield, a brother Stanley Malecki Sr. and his wife Helen also of South Plainfield, his five grandchildren; Paige Malecki, Kevin Malecki (Sonia), Scott Malecki (Cara), Mark Malecki and Christopher Malecki. Also surviving are his two great grandchildren; Matthew and Mason Malecki.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield.
Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
Visitation will be held on Monday July 23, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to the South Plainfield Senior Center, 90 Maple Avenue, South Plainfield or to the Haven Hospice, C/O JFK Medical Center, 65 James St. Edison, NJ 08818.
