Obituary of John L. Ward

John L. Ward South Plainfield - John L. Ward, 89, died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at Somerset Medical Center in Somerville. Born and raised in Plainfield, John resided in Dunellen and again in Plainfield prior to settling to South Plainfield in 1960. John was veteran of the U.S. Navy and worked as a foreman for PSE&G in Elizabeth until his retirement. He was an avid handball player and excelled at the sport winning many events including state championships. Mr. Ward was also a member of the former North Plainfield Flying Eagles and for many years was active with the Plainfield YMCA. He is predeceased by his three sisters and two brothers. Surviving are his wife Helen (Zak), his three sons; John and his wife Linda of Millburn, Matthew and his wife Teresa of South Plainfield and Mark and his wife Marianne of Warren along with his five grandchildren; John L., Meghan, Matthew, Lindsey and Ryan Ward. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, November 12, 2012 at 9:15 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10:00 AM funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 11, 2012 from 1-5 PM in the funeral home.
