I have two memories that I can share about Tito Jorge.
The first memory I have of Tito Jorge was meeting him at a park during one of the family picnics. Here was this tall Filipino guy with greying hair. I wasn't sure if he was old, his hair color was confusing. I can remember playing third base, ala Graig Nettles of the Yankees. Tito Jorge came up to bat and promptly grounded to second. I can vividly remember him booking down the line screaming at the top of his lungs and laughing all the way. Cracked me up -- who was this guy?
My other favorite memory of him occurred when he helped move us to our new house on Nicholas Court in Edison. Tito Jorge drove one of the moving trucks. I accompanied him, along with, I think, a young Michael Castillo. Along the way we noticed a couple of young teenage girls walking down the road. Tito Jorge hit the horn a couple of times and when they turned to wave, he and I cracked up. Michael asked confusedly, "Hey, why'd you do that?" which made us laugh even more. I think Mike knows why now.
Talking with Tito Jorge at family parties was always enjoyable, his gentle manner and funny observations were always welcome. He was most beloved.
May he rest in peace in our good Lord's loving embrace.
