Leroy Helgesen
South Plainfield - Leroy Helgesen, 82, passed away suddenly on Monday, November 5, 2012 at JFK Medical Center in Edison.
Born and raised in Roselle, Mr. Helgesen lived in Westfield before settling in South Plainfield in 1954. He served in the US Army for three years during the Korean War as a Staff Sergeant.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as an electrician for Lessner Electric in Elizabeth and has been an electrician with the I.B.E.W. Local #102 for the past 50 years.
As a 50 years member of the Masonic Order, he served as Past Master for the former Anchor Lodge in Plainfield and is currently a member of the Atlas Pythagoras Lodge No. 10 of Westfield.
He is pre-deceased by his brother, John and by his grandson, Cory Kline who died in 2009.
Known to his family as "Pop", he will be deeply missed by his wife of 60 years, Joan (Stone), his daughter; Lindy Kline and her husband Gary of North Carolina, his sons; Lee and his wife, Tina of Maryland and Kenny and his wife, Felicia, of Ringoes. A sister; Gladys Bernard and her husband Rick of Florida, eight grandchildren; Justin and Jason Kline, Michael, Brian, Steven, Paige, Brooke and Luke Helgesen and four great grandchildren; Elizabeth, Jaxon and Dylan Kline and Eliza Helgesen.
Funerals Services will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080.
Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery, Scotch Plains.
Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 PM in the funeral home.
Donations in his memory may be made the American Heart Association or to the Leukemia Foundation.
