Obituary of Alfonso M. Betemit

Edison - Alfonso M. Betemit, 89, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 3, 2013 in the Haven Hospice within JFK Medical Center after a short illness with his family at his side.
Born in Santiago, Dominican Republic, Alfonso moved to Elizabeth in 1962 and settled to Edison 15 years ago.
Prior to retirement, Alfonso worked as a supervisor for the former Eastside Lighting in Linden where he was a dedicated worker.
He greatly enjoyed spending as much time as possible with his grandchildren and great grandchildren which he adored leaving many fond memories.
Alfonso is predeceased by a daughter; Angelica, his parents, and seven siblings.
Surviving is his wife of 61 years; Martha (De Paz), four children; Maria Martin, Edward "Tony", Martha Hurler and her husband Robert and Alfonso and a sister; Josefina DeJesus. He will be missed by four grandchildren; Tatiana Guzman and husband, Anthony, Christina, Christopher and Jennifer, and two great grandchildren; Xiann and Yesenia.
Funeral services will begin on Monday, October 7, 2013 at 8:45 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass at 9:30 AM in St. Helena's RC Church, Edison.
Interment will follow in St. Gertrude's Cemetery, Colonia.
Family and friends may attend visitation on Sunday from 3-7 PM in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association - Northern NJ Chapter, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834.
