South Plainfield - Angelo Paradiso, 92, passed away on Sunday, November 9, 2014 at the Haven Hospice in JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in the Jamaica section of Queens, to the late John and Nancy, Angelo enlisted in the United States Army on March 17, 1942. He served with the 90th Infantry Company B 359 Battalion where he served during the Invasion of Normandy at Utah Beach. A decorated veteran, he was awarded two Purple Hearts, American Service Medal and several others badges of honor for his service prior to being discharged in January of 1946. He was recently bestowed the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal. Angelo returned home, settled to South Plainfield in 1956 and had worked as a supervisor for Triangle Industries of New Brunswick. He was a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and Combat Wounded Veterans Organization. In his younger years, Angelo enjoyed golfing, bowling at various lanes and playing baseball in his youth. He played high school baseball against Phil Rizzuto and was fortunate to have caddied for Babe Ruth. As a 58 year communicant of Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, Angelo served as lecture for 35 years, was a member of their Holy Name Society and volunteered for the annual Feast of St. Anthony. Predeceased by four sisters and three brothers, he is survived by his wife of 58 years Dorothy (Butrico) two daughters, Dr. Mary Jo Paradiso of South Plainfield, Patricia Paradiso - DeAngelis and her husband, Dr. Vincent DeAngelis and son, Angelo and his wife, Dawn. Sister, Helen Palmeri of Staten Island and four grandchildren; Laura, Michelle and Terry DeAngelis and Olivia Paradiso. Funeral services will begin on Thursday, November 13, 2014 at 10 AM in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a funeral mass at 11 AM in Our Lady of Czestochowa RC Church, 809 Hamilton Boulevard, South Plainfield Entombment will follow in Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum. Family and friends, may attend the visitation hours on Wednesday, from 4-8 PM in the funeral home.
