Frederick J. Manthey South Plainfield, NJ - Frederick J. Manthey, 93, died at his home on Monday, January 2, 2012. Born in Newark, NJ, he graduated from Irvington High School and has lived in South Plainfield since 1959. Frederick was honorably discharged from the United States Army after faithfully serving his country during WWII. He was an administrative assistant to the Vice President of NJ Transit in Maplewood. Frederick was very active with St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Metuchen. He enjoyed visiting the sick and elderly at nursing homes and hospitals. Frederick would often stay and pray with them and as a Eucharistic Minister he would offer communion. He is predeceased by his wife Gladys Manthey who died March 25, 2009. Frederick leaves behind his children; Patricia Manthey and her husband Dan Garvey of Watchung and Jeffrey Manthey of Boca Raton, FL. Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 6, 2012 beginning 10:00 AM in the McCriskin-Gustafson Home for Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by an 11:00 AM service at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 17 Oak Avenue, Metuchen, NJ 08840. Interment will follow in Hollywood Memorial Park in Union. Visitation will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, January 5, 2012 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM and on Friday from 9:45 AM until the service time. In lieu of flowers, donations sent to the Alzheimer Association, Northern NJ Chapter, 400 Morris Avenue, Suite 251, Denville, NJ 07834 would be appreciated.
