South Plainfield - Robert E. McGill, 81, died on Friday, May 16, 2014 at home. Born in Ashland, PA., Mr. McGill grew up in Mt. Carmel, PA and settled to South Plainfield in 1967. He graduated from Our Lady of Mt. Carmel High School in 1951 and entered the United States Air Force the following year. He served four years and was honorably discharged in 1956. Mr. McGill worked as a machine operator for the former Crown, Cork and Seal company in Edison for nearly 25 years. He was a member of the Edison American Legion Post 435 and the Edison Moose Lodge. Robert was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church in South Plainfield, attending the Saturday evening mass and was also an avid fan of all South Plainfield youth sports. He is predeceased by his wife Mary Ann and by his brother Jack McGill Surviving are his sons; Robert J. McGill and his wife Lori of Budd Lake, John McGill. and his wife Claire of Annandale and Kevin McGill and his wife Christa of South Plainfield and his grandchildren; Amanda, Marie and John Jr. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at 9:15am in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080 followed by a 10am funeral mass at Sacred Heart RC Church, South Plainfield. Interment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 from 6-9pm in the funeral home. In Lieu of flowers donation have been requested to the South Plainfield Rescue Squad, 2520 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080
