Please share a memory of Gertrude to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gertrude "Betty" E. McLean, 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her home, where she loved to be. Born and raised in Plainfield to the late Emil Max and Mary Gertrude (Brown) Neumann, Betty graduated from Plainfield High School and Muhlenberg School of Nursing, obtaining her RN which she took great pride in up until her final days.
Betty worked for Dr. Richard Peters, Muhlenberg Hospital, McCutcheon Nursing Home and Seacrest Village. With her pressed uniform, polished shoes and hat upon her head, she passed down the love of her profession to her daughter and granddaughters.
Her final nursing assignment was to take such wonderful care of her husband of almost fifty years during his own battle with cancer, and a remarkable and loving job she did,
Predeceased by her one and only, husband William in 1998 along with her brother Robert, Betty leaves behind her children; daughter Elizabeth McLean and Andrew Ostergaard of Las Cruses, NM, son William J. McLean and his wife Lora and daughter Mary Jane DeNitzio and husband William all of South Plainfield and brother William of Lavalette.
Betty loved to tell everyone she had ten grandchildren and twelve greats and was so very proud of each.
Betty loved her rose garden, baking chocolate chip cookies, wrapping presents, sending cards and always being on time wherever she went. She will be missed by many loving family and friends.
Family and friends are invited to gather at the Church of the Sacred Heart, 149 South Plainfield Avenue, South Plainfield, NJ 07080 on Wednesday, January 3, 2018 for a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial. Mausoleum entombment will follow at Holy Redeemer Cemetery Mausoleum also in South Plainfield.
