South Plainfield - Martin Vasquez, 85, passed away Friday, January 29, 2016 at JFK Medical Center in Edison. Born and raised in Chicago, Ill. Martin resided in Arlington Heights, Ill and had been a resident of South Plainfield since 1968. Martin served in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and achieved the rank of Captain prior to his honorable discharge. A camera man for ABC - New York City, Mr. Vasquez spent 38 years the company and retired in 1990. During his career, Martin was fortunate enough to meet several highly influential world leaders. He covered various professional sporting events, Presidential Debates and every Presidential Inauguration from John F. Kennedy to Ronald Regan. In addition, Mr. Vasquez was very fond of President Thomas Jefferson; the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright and was also an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed bird watching. Predeceased by his wife Theresa, Martin is survived by a son Martin of South Plainfield; daughter, Gina Collins of Murrells Inlet; sister, Marie Duxbury of Winter Springs, Fl; brother, Daniel and his wife Marilyn of Arlington Heights, Ill. and two grandchildren, Angela Wolfe and William Flinn. Martin was also expecting his 1st great grandchild this May. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 3, 2016 from 5-8pm in the McCriskin - Gustafson Home For Funerals, 2425 Plainfield Ave., South Plainfield, NJ 07080. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:30am in the funeral home. Cremation services will follow privately.
