John D. Brown (Jack) of Piscataway, passed away on February 12, 2014. He was at home, surrounded by his family, after having valiantly fought bladder cancer for two years. His example of hope, strength, and courage will remain with those closest to him.Jack, the youngest of eight children, was born to Catherine and James Brown of Jersey City. After graduating Snyder High School, he served in the US Navy on the USS Farragut, DLG-6, from 1961 to 1964, as a Radio Man. He shared many stories of his adventures at sea with family and friends, and became a member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He attended Jersey City State College. Jack married Patricia Ann Ciancia on July 26, 1969 and after living in Jersey City for eight years, they moved to Piscataway where they raised their family and created wonderful memories.Jack earned his living first as an Exchange Layout Man for NJ Bell Telephone Co.. He was transferred to the Regional Staff in Newark, and after 25 years, finally retired as a Regional Staff Manager for Bell Atlantic. He served as a consultant to Verizon till 1996.Jack took pride in creating a beautiful and welcoming home. He hosted many BBQs and pool parties. He loved the NY Yankees and NY Giants, never wavering in his loyalty to his favorite teams. He enjoyed traveling, boating, fishing, and gardening. In his later years, he loved spending time at his Florida condo on the Gulf and considered it his second home.The most important thing to Jack was family and he inspired loyalty, support, and love. In July of 2013, he and Patricia renewed their wedding vows in the presence of their immediate family and closest friends. He was extremely proud of his long, loving marriage, his amazing children, their caring spouses, and his outstanding grandchildren.Besides his parents, Jack was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, George, James, and Walter. He leaves behind his brother Arthur and his sisters, Gloria Witkowski and Nancy Rhinehardt. He will be deeply missed by his wife Patricia, his daughter Cassandra Bossen and her husband Jeff, his son David Brown and his wife Jenny, and his son Jared Brown and his wife Jennifer. He will be remembered in the hearts of his wonderful grandchildren, Kelly, Daniel, Gabriel, Alexandra, and Carlisle.Visitation will take place in the Middlesex Funeral Home, 528 Bound Brook Road, Middlesex, NJ, 08846, on Monday, February 17, 2014, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, from 9:30 am to 10:30 am. Tuesday's viewing will be followed by a Catholic Mass at 11:00 am at St. Frances Cabrini Church, 208 Bound Brook Avenue, Piscataway, NJ 08854. Burial will follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Hoes Lane and Park Avenue, Piscataway.In lieu of flowers, please make a generous donation in Jack's memory to Compassionate Care Hospice, 9 Lamington Road, Branchburg, NJ, 08876.
